Regionals

Spring Break is over (for most of us) and it is back to school and work.  But, on the bright side, it is also back to volleyball.

This week, we have our normal practice on Monday at Poe from 6:00 to 7:30 and on Wednesday at Holmes from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

Also, we ahve Regionals this Saturday at the Meadowbrook Athletic Complex in Ellicott City, Maryland starting at 8:30am.

Finally, Raven's birthday is this Sunday.  Please be sure to wish her a very happy 12th birthday.

12 South Coach - Rick Dunetz

Rick Dunetz has been coaching with MAVBC since 2003. Rick has coached the 14 Regional South team, achieving a Silver Bracket Championship and also the 15 Regional South team, achieving a Silver Bracket Semi-Final finish. Rick manages the coaches in the south as well as coaches additional skills clinics during the season. He is also doing much of the behind the scenes work, including updating and managing the MAVBC web site.

Rick has also coached in other areas. He was the Head Coach for the Braddock Road Youth Club (2001-2002), the Assistant Coach for West Springfield High School (2002-2003), and the Head Coach at West Springfield High School (2003-2006). In 2004 his team won the District Championship and the Regional Semi-Finals. In 2005 and 2006 his team lost in the District Final and the Regional Quarter Finals. He is now the Head volleyball coach at Annandale High School. Rick is numerous coaching certification to include Gold Medal Squared and CAP I Certifications.

Rick is the Founder and CEO of The Side-Out Foundation where he works to raise funds for treatments and therapies against breast cancer. In his spare time he loves to listen to and perform music, as he is a singer and a trombone player, read, and work on his charity doubles tournament that raises money for Breast Cancer research. Rick is married to Akiyo.

12 South Coach - Storm Peterson

Storm (Richard) Peterson is in his second season with Metro American Volleyball Club. Last year Storm coached with the 14 South White team and is currently the 12 South coach.   He is also coaching his club team at Ft. McNair. 
 
Storm attended the Miami University of Ohio for his undergraduate degree and the Industrial College of the Armed Force at National University, Ft. McNair for his Post Graduate degree. He has a BA in Political Science, a MA in Strategic Leadership and will have a MS in Supply Chain Management.
 
Storm is currently a full-time student at the National University. He has been in the military now for over 21 years. Some of his highlights include commanding four different units and running the Bagram airfield in Afghanistan. 
 
Storm’s wife and best friend, Yoshiko, will also be helping out with the team when she can. They have 3 children, Drew, Dakota (who plays for MAVBC!) and a beautiful baby girl, Donica.
