14 South Coach - Phil Oshida

Phil is in his fourth year of coaching junior girls volleyball and this is his third consecutive season coaching Metro 14s with Patty Marrero.  Phil emphasizes doing the right thing at the right time in the right way.  He considers coaching as an opportunity to help young players learn about volleyball skills, mental preparedness, leadership, supporting your teammates, and enjoying the game.  He has great fun helping the 14s improve over the course of the season and seeing their joy as they master new skills.
 
Phil plays USAV adult mens B/BB volleyball and is also a member of an over-55 mens volleyball team that annually participates in the US Adult Open Volleyball Championships and the Huntsman World Senior Games.  Phil finds playing and coaching are still great fun!
 
Phil and his wife of 31 years, Sandy, met while playing recreational volleyball at California State University Long Beach in the 1970s.  Their daughters Caitlin and Macara have recently played volleyball for the University of Mary Washington and Metro American VBC/Woodson High School, respectively.
 
Phil is employed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency where he works to protect the Nation's drinking water.

This is Patty's 3rd year coaching club season with Metro American Volleyball Club. Last season she coached the 14 South Red Regional team.

 

 

Patty started out her volleyball career playing at her hometown San Juan Puerto Rico High School, Colegio Nuestra Señora de Belén (1975 - 1977). She then went on to play for the Universidad de Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus (1978 - 1982). Patty was a member of the Federación International de
Volleyball Puertorriqueña Junior (1975 - 1976) and Superior Womens Professional League Teams(1977 - 1983). She also played with the Puerto Rico National Team (1977 - 1983) and participated in many International and Invitational Competitions like: Centro American and Caribbean Games 1977, Confederación de Norteamérica, Centroamérica y el Caribe (NORCECA - 1978, 1980) and Pan American Games 1979.
Patty then joined the Army in 1984 and played Inter Post Recreation League (1984 - 1992) participating many times as the Team's Captain/Coach for Women and Coed Teams.

Patty has 12 year old twin boys, Antonio and Cristian. She works as a Senior Systems Analyst for ASM Research Inc, Fairfax VA. In her free time she enjoys reading and participating in her Tai Kick, Cardio Kick Boxing classes.
