John Shultis has coached volleyball for the past fourteen years. Hoping to get his daughters involved in this intriguing sport, he helped to start the Braddock Road Youth Club (BRYC) girls' house league in 1998 and began introducing elementary and middle school girls to volleyball. He later coached at the Club level with Metro American, coaching a mix of 14s, 15s, and 16s teams for four years. Last year, he returned to BRYC and helped the club develop a boys program so that his son could play the game. While maintaining that BRYC affiliation and support for his son's efforts, John also hankers to coach the girls game, and especially to introduce the youngest players to the sport he loves. So, hat in hand, he has come back to Metro in search of the Dream Team.
John has been a member of USA Volleyball's Chesapeake Region going on six years now, and has been a member of the American Volleyball Coaches' Association during that same period. John is IMPACT and CAP I certified, and has taken the classes for CAP level II. Further, he has completed levels 1 and 2 of the renowned Gold Medal Squared coaches clinics. John also frequently assists Olympic Gold Medalist Pat Powers when Pat conducts clinics in the Northern Virginia area.
John's three daughters all played in the BRYC house league and in high school. His younger two daughters played travel volleyball for Metro American, and now both play in college, one at Marymount University, the other at Howard University. John is happily married and hopelessly in love with his lovely wife of 25+ years, Gretchen.
