17-1 Travel Coach - Russ Friedland

 Russ is in his 2nd year with Metro American Volleyball Club. Last year, Russ was the head coach of our 18 South team, but Russ also comes with a background full of coaching experience: Volunteer Assistant (2004) for the University of Connecticut, Head Coach for the men’s and women’s programs (2007-2008) at Daniel Webster College, and Volunteer Assistant (2008) at American University. Currently he is the 2nd Assistant for George Washington University. 

 
     Russ began his volleyball career at EO Smith High School in Connecticut and club volleyball with Husky Volleyball. He then went on to play volleyball for Endicott College (2001-2005) in Beverly, Massachusetts where his team achieved their first national ranking and made back to back post-season appearances in the ECAC Championships. While at Endicott, Russ earned his BS in Sports Management and an M.B.A.
 
     Outside of coaching, Russ also is the Federal Account Manager at CDW in Herndon, VA. Russ is married to his beautiful wife, Megan.  


 

17-1 Travel Assistant Coach - Andrew Huynh

Andrew Huynh is in his third year with Metro American Volleyball Club. This year he will be assisting with the 17 Travel team. In the past, Andrew has coached 16 Travel, 17 Travel and 18 Travel.

Andrew started his volleyball career at Central Bucks High School West and also played club volleyball for Buxmont VBC and Central Bucks VBC. While in high school, Andrew was 1st team All-League for Suburban One, team MVP and captain his senior year, and Keystone State Game’s Most Outstanding Player.

Andrew then went on to attend American University where he stayed involved with volleyball as the manager of the AU women’s team. While at AU, he earned a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration (Finance/Management).

Currently, Andrew is a registered representative for Vantage Financial Solutions.
 

17-1 Travel Assistant Coach - Alyssa Valentine

We are excited to add Alyssa Valentine to the Metro American Volleyball Club coaching ranks! She will be assisting Russ Friedland with the 17 Travel team this year.

Alyssa started her volleyball career at Foothill High School and Edison High School where she was 1st team all-sea view league and 1st team all-sunset league respectively. While in high school, she played club for SVVC, Roxy Beach (3rd place in the 15 Open Division Junior Olympics) and TCA (5th place in the 16/17 Open Division two years in a row and 1st place 18 Open Division in the Junior Olympics).

Alyssa then went on to play volleyball for George Washington University where she was the A-10 Rookie of the Year in 2008. She is currently a student/athlete at George Washington University pursuing a degree in Exercise Science.
